Blue Star NBR is a Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) manufacturing company located in Wytheville, VA. When completed, our facility will proudly supply American-made medical-grade NBR for use in the production of nitrile examination gloves.
What is NBR?
Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) is a synthetic rubber polymer made from acrylonitrile and butadiene. It is used in several industries as a material for hoses, seals, adhesives, and molded goods. Blue Star’s NBR will be produced primarily for use in disposable gloves, an important form of personal protective equipment (PPE) for members of the healthcare, laboratory, and food service industries (among others). Gloves made from NBR are resistant to oils and other chemicals. NBR gloves are also more puncture-resistant and less likely to cause allergic reactions than gloves made from natural latex rubber.
November 22, 2021 - Governor Northam was on hand to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for Blue Star NBR at Progress Park in Wytheville, VA. Construction will be underway soon, with NBR production scheduled to begin in late 2022.
